The experience of a customer during any interaction with a supplier will determine their view of the company they are in contact with and the potential for them to continue their relationship in the future.
While every firm will have some form of policy regarding rules and ‘do’s or don’ts’, the execution of this policy to foster a positive experience for customers’, needs to be something that those at all levels within the supplying company itself buy into and put at the forefront of their mindset when engaging with customers. The mechanics of developing a sale must be as efficient as handling and resolving complaints – the buying customer will inevitably need future support at some point. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail, as they say.
Maintaining excellent standards at customer facing roles is the obvious item to develop considering this is where the impression is made but providing structure behind this interface will be critical to developing and sustaining the ability to make the positive impression on your customer base, while allowing for new customers to seek you out due to your reputation.
Internal structures that are well oiled are key to ensure functional departments can execute their day-to-day activities swiftly and efficiently. Handling of complaints and the continuous improvement of systems to provide slick response times will always result in an improved experiences both for the customer and the customer facing employee of the supplier. If the employee believes in what they are delivering, the whole process becomes much more organic. The days of having a disgruntled employee who would cause avoidable harm to your country’s reputation are gone, but the solution lies within the company itself – to deliver the very thing that has been promised through advertising and relationship management.
This approach is not a growing trend, it is an evolution that will continue to be fundamental to the success or decline of future business across the globe.
