Meet Jack Newman
Apprenticeship: Ford Dealership Apprenticeship Programme
What made you want to apply for this particular Apprenticeship?
I’ve always been involved in cars and wanted to take that interest further. And I wanted to do something I enjoy for a job.
Did you consider going to university?
I have no interest in university as I’m more of a practically minded person, and always wanted to start an apprenticeship.
What do you like best about your Apprenticeship?
Learning new skills and becoming a better technician each day
In what ways has your Apprenticeship lived up to your expectations?
By learning as I go each day and taking my knowledge above and beyond. And in helping me to become a good technician.
How supportive have your work colleagues been of you?
Yes, they’re always around there to help.
How supportive has your coach been?
Very. I have a visit every 6-8 weeks where we talk about what has happened. Plus they are always on the other end of the phone if I have any questions.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learnt so far?
Stripping and rebuilding gearboxes. They are quite something.
Has doing the Apprenticeship helped you in any other areas of your life?
Yes. I’m getting more confident in myself.
What are your career plans once you’ve completed your Apprenticeship?
To become a fully qualified technician and have a successful career with Ford.
What would your advice be to someone who’s thinking of applying to do an Apprenticeship?
To take the opportunity and do it, as it’s a good way into doing something that you want to do long term, and you learn so much each day.
